Head of Finance

Overview

Our client is a busy nonprofit based in southwest Calgary and operating through the province. Reporting to the Executive Director, this is a senior leadership role with fiscal oversight of all financial and management reporting, accounting, tax, budgeting, planning, controls, capital spend, and banking.  Supervise four staff.  Collaborate with other senior leaders. 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Full cycle accounting including preparation of financial statements and analysis
  • Cash flow forecasting
  • Review all transactions, AP, AR, expenditures
  • Review operating costs
  • Manage and develop financial controls, other governance
  • Develop annual operating and capital budgets
  • Corporate and project fiscal strategy advisory
  • Business process and financial policy improvement
  • Complete/co-ordinate all income and other tax returns
  • Bank reconciliations 
  • Bi-weekly cheque runs
  • Fixed asset accounting, i.e., acquisitions, disposals, retirement, transfers
  • Audit all corporate credit card transactions
  • Co-ordinate annual external audit
  • Manage adoption and use of financial software
  • Occasional travel

REQUIREMENTS

  • Finance and Accounting function oversight experience
  • Strong knowledge of budgeting, financial planning, and risk management principles
  • Excellent supervisory and leadership skills with the ability to motivate and inspire a team
  • Relevant post-secondary education, and CPA preferred
  • Nonprofit experience preferred
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office
