Our client is a stable and growing international trader of natural gas, crude and soon also LNG. Hybrid work location arrangement.
Position Overview:
Reporting to the Director, Credit & Risk, this brand new position will have the primary responsibility of supporting the regional operational risk initiatives. You will be the prime driver to build an effective internal control policy environment through risk assessment, control activities, appropriate communication, and continuous monitoring. This role will proactively work with company management and stakeholders to identify and assess enterprise risks across all functions of the business, ensuring adherence to regulatory, legal, corporate, and functional requirements. There will be no staff reporting to this position.
The successful candidate will have expertise in internal controls and operational risk management; a self- starter who is accustomed to working in fast-paced, complex, evolving organizations with diverse stakeholders; and an agile individual who is able to withstand challenges and adapt quickly with an execution mindset.
There will probably be travel to Houston from time to time (infrequent).
Key Accountabilities:
- Support the development and maintenance of the operational risk policy framework to enable identification and assessment of major operational risks across core and emerging commercial and operational activities in line with recognized best practice and standards.
- Support the internal control framework and build new controls, maintain and create new process documentation and work flow documentation, test controls, follow-up on any action plans for identified deficiencies, and monitoring remediation efforts throughout the year
- Support the New Business Assurance process and contribute to the risk oversight and control in relation to new strategic initiatives and operational capability projects.
- Champion a strong risk culture for the company via elevating the risk knowledge by deploying risk management best practices across the Provide expert guidance, credible challenge, and effective oversight of risk-taking activities throughout the company.
- Contribute to various enterprise risk management initiatives, produce high quality deliverables including procedure documents, reports, and presentations for all levels of management

Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree
- 5+ years of experience including full cycle control implementation and testing
- Workflow/process document creation experience
- Audit facilitation experience
- Supervisory experience preferred
- Experience with the O&G industry including an understanding of marketing and trading, LNG Canada, Trans Mountain, and risk control practices
- Demonstrate an understanding of controls testing and risk within areas such as information technology, credit management, treasury
- Knowledge of applicable regulatory and legal compliance obligations, rules and regulations, industry standards
- Knowledge of risk management principles and regulatory compliance
- CPA/CFA designation an asset
