Sr. General Accountant & Cost Analyst

Overview

Our client is a mid-size/large public oil & gas services company with operations in Canada, the US and Internationally.  Currently they have a need to add a Senior General Accountant & Cost Analyst to their team.  This is a full-time role reporting to the Controller out of the Calgary downtown office. 

Responsibilities: 

Reporting to the Corporate Controller, the Senior General Accountant & Cost Analyst is accountable for supporting the accounting operations of the Company, including but not limited to accurate and timely financial reporting, maintaining appropriate accounting records, and generating cost reports and analyses for Canada and US. Specific duties include:

  • Prepare and review monthly journal entries.
  • Assist in the preparation of various financial reports and schedules.
  • Review and analyze general ledger accounts, highlighting and explaining major variances and investigating unusual transactions.
  • Assist in the provision of information to external auditors for review and audit.
  • Generate and analyze job costing reports for Canada and US monthly; ensuring that all revenues and incurred costs are reflected accurately and in a timely manner on each job by utilizing Power BI and other accounting spreadsheets and schedules.
  • Prepare job costing reports for specific clients and time period as required by Supervisor and Management.
  • Prepare presentation notes, present, and respond to inquiries on the job costing reports during job costing meetings.
  • Engage in regular and/or ad hoc meetings with report stakeholders to discuss issues and reporting requirements.
  • Coordinate changes to the job costing reports with Business Applications Manager and other stakeholders as required.
  • Continuously improve the job costing report generation process.
  • Prepare and maintain monthly Atlas motor cost per hour reports.
  • Prepare and maintain monthly RSS job costing reports.
  • Prepare and maintain monthly Gyro job costing reports
  • Assist with CSOX internal controls testing.
  • Other duties and projects as required by Supervisor and Management (e.g. Antenna and At-bit job costing).
  • Assist other departments with various projects when time permits.
  • Perform all duties so as to meet the responsibilities listed in the Employee and Corporate HSE Handbooks.
  • Perform duties according to the Company’s quality system procedures and work instructions.

Requirements:

  • Completion of professional designation
  • 5+ years of related accounting experience
  • Experience in the oil & gas industry considered an asset
  • Large public practice experience considered an asset
  • Strong systems skills, including Excel (macros, pivot tables, VLOOKUPS) and Power BI
  • This role requires 5 days a week working from downtown Calgary office
