Senior Tax Specialist

Overview

Our client is a large public oil & gas company based in downtown Calgary.  Currently they are looking for a Senior Tax Specialist to join their team.  This is a permanent role reporting to the Manager of Tax.

Responsibilities: 

The successful candidate will join the Manager of Tax to work as a team in a full cycle tax role, from planning, M&A, to compliance and provisions. Specific duties include:

Tax Planning

  • General corporate tax planning
  • Acquisition & disposition tax planning
  • Monitor and assess changes in tax legislation
  • Research and advise on various tax related topics
  • Assist with compensation planning and taxable benefits
  • Liaise with various third-party providers
  • Ad hoc tax projects as required

Compliance

  • Preparation of all federal and provincial income tax returns
  • Research and document tax filing positions
  • Preparation of all quarterly and year-end income tax provisions
  • Coordination of US income tax returns and US sales tax returns
  • Model and manage estimated tax payments
  • Manage all tax related processes
  • Manage non-resident withholding tax payments and filings
  • Coordinate the Scientific Research and Development filings
  • Oversee and maintain transfer pricing documentation
  • Oversee the monthly GST and PST filings and compliance

Audits

  • Coordinate all tax audits
  • Manage any objections and appeals

Requirements:

  • CPA designation
  • Completion or enrollment in the In-depth Tax Course levels I and II
  • Experienced tax practitioner with 5 + years of tax experience in a corporate environment or equivalent public practice with oil and gas experience
  • Team oriented mentality, and willingness to pitch in whenever and however possible
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to develop effective work relationships within the organization
  • Strong work ethic and ability to prioritize and meet tight deadlines
  • Strong attention to detail and highly organized
