Tax Analyst

Overview

Our client is a mid-size/large public oil & gas services company with operations in Canada, the US and Internationally.  Currently they have a need to add a Tax Analyst to their team.  This is a full-time role reporting to the Director of Tax out of the Calgary downtown office. 

Responsibilities:  The Tax Analyst is accountable for all aspects of our clients US, Canadian, and International income, state, and local taxes. It is estimated 75-80% of role will be dealing with US tax, ~20% Canadian tax and very little with International.  Initially no planning in this role.

  • Prepare monthly and quarterly income tax provisions and working papers
  • Prepare Canadian and US federal and state/provincial income tax returns and working papers
  • Prepare U.S. monthly, quarterly, and annual sales & use tax, including filing of tax returns and remittance of tax
  • Review sales tax on vendor invoices and coordinate with business units and vendors to correct sales tax
  • Prepare monthly U.S. property tax accrual, including working papers for rendition
  • Reconcile tax accounts
  • Assist with tax audits
  • Stay current on tax updates and legislation changes
  • Research tax issues and documenting the research in tax memorandums
  • Assist with other various projects as assigned by the Director of Taxation
  • Assist other departments with various projects when time permits
  • Effective internal communication on various tax matters
  • Perform all duties to meet the responsibilities listed in the Employee and Corporate HSE Handbooks
  • Perform duties according to the Company’s quality system procedures and work instructions

Requirements:

  • Completion of professional designation
  • 2+ years of related tax experience
  • CICA In-Depth tax course considered an asset
  • This individual will have strong analytical, organizational, prioritizing, and problem-solving skills
  • They will be self-motivated, enthusiastic, detail oriented, and can work under pressure to meet reporting and filing deadlines
  • The successful candidate will have the ability to work both independently and within a team environment, with excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • The candidate will display solid IT skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office and tax software (ProSystems and Taxprep). Experience with SAP software is an asset
  • This role requires 5 days a week working from downtown Calgary office
