Our client is a very successful oil & gas services company, headquartered in Calgary and with operations across North America.  Currently they need to add a Corporate Financial Analyst to the team.  This is a permanent role reporting to the Director Corporate Finance.    

Responsibilities:  

The Senior Accountant is responsible for the preparation and processing of various month end functions including journal entries, account reconciliations, account analysis and other duties as the role develops. This is a critical role in the GL team ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and completeness of work. The Senior Accountant will also suggest process improvements, update documentation and mentor others.   The role will report directly to the Accounting Manager. Specific duties include:

  • Ensure the accuracy, timeliness, and integrity of accounting information.
  • Oversee and manage inventory general ledgers for raw materials, parts, and coiled tubing
    inventory.
  • Verify inventory counts and assist with variance analysis.
  • Analyze and reconcile the goods received not invoiced account.
  • Prepare all journal entries with appropriate support.
  • Prepare quarterly memos related to net realizable value of inventory.
  • Support fixed asset and AFE accounting and reporting processes.
  • Assist in closing the general ledger in five workdays each month. Suggest and implement ways to shorten the month end close.
  • Reconcile balance sheet accounts monthly.
  • Assist with the preparation of monthly reporting and analysis. This includes margin analysis of
    products and materials as well as labour.
  • Prepare analysis of balance sheet and income statement accounts comparing prior months and
    any budget or forecast numbers.
  • Provide support to operations and supply chain and review monthly results with key stakeholders.
  • Assist other team members with accounting issues and questions.
  • Support corporate finance with required schedules and requests.
  • Assist with preparation of schedules and coordination with the external auditors. Document
    business processes to maintain and strengthen internal controls. Suggest improvements to
    existing processes.
  • Other ad-hoc reporting and accounting projects as required.

Requirements:

  • CPA Designation
  • A minimum 5 years of experience
  • Strong knowledge of IFRS with a public company
  • Strong Excel
  • Experience with Microsoft Navision is an asset
  • Planning, organizing, scheduling, communication, and problem analysis skills.
