Our client is a Calgary-based oil and gas company. They have a strong and experienced Board and a senior management team with over a century of experience within the energy industry, and a proven track record of building and operating oil and gas assets in Canada.   The company is very stable, with low staff turnover.

The Position

This role will initially be structured at around 24 hours per week on a contract basis, for 12 months.  There is a possibility of extension and converting to full-time employment.   The work will be conducted in their downtown office.

The Senior Production Accountant will be a key member of the Company’s production and operations accounting function as well as providing support to senior management on management reporting and special projects as required from time to time.

Key support responsibilities include backup or assistance with:

  • Full cycle production and revenue accounting for properties in Alberta and BC
  • Regulatory reporting and compliance with reporting deadlines for submissions to regulatory agencies
  • Communicating with, and supporting working interest owners and third-party contacts
  • Supporting compliance activities in relation to provincial indirect taxes and levies  
  • Providing production/operations accounting support to the Operations group.
  • Assisting Operations in creating annual budgets and monthly forecasts
  • Managing JV and production accounting audits as well as assisting with year-end corporate accounting reporting and audit requirements
  • Ensuring that the production accounting software is maintained and periodically enhanced to meet all reporting requirements
  • Completion of annual gas cost allowance calculations
  • Creating monthly management asset operating income reports including variance analysis
  • Compliance with joint venture agreements and land contracts
  • Assisting and reporting the monthly and annual requirements of EPAP; working with operations to ensure compliance
  • Journal entries, accruals


  • The ideal candidate will have a university degree and CAPPA certification
  • 10+ years related production accounting experience including EPAP
  • Experience performing monthly gas and NGL plant allocations and splits
  • Excel skills: spreadsheet creation, improvement and ownership; cell referencing, sumifs, lookups, models with input and output tabs; continuing education.
  • Experience with facility contracts such as gas handling agreements, with understanding of JV Agreements
  • Strong communications skills as there are interactions with customers, Commercial group, Gas Plant personnel and operations group via in-person, phone or email
  • Basic financial accounting fundamentals understanding e.g. running reports, creating journal entries, accounts receivable, accruals, GLs
  • Full Covid vaccination
