Intermediate Operations Accountant

Upstream Oil & Gas


Our client is an midsized upstream oil & gas company currently drilling and active.  This hire is due to growth and a reorganization, and has a good potential for permanent employment after 12 months as an hourly-pay contract.

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Cost analysis, forecasting, process journal entries and accruals related to Operations, monthly reporting and analysis of results
  • Maintain Excel work books and models
  • Maintain Surface and Mineral rental amortization, e.g., prepaids
  • Assist with annual Orphan Well Levy and Admin Fee, full cycle
  • Reconcile and analyze data presented on monthly account reconciliations
  • Interact with operations regarding financial reporting, statistical results and analysis
  • Comfortable communicating with field supervisor on a regular basis and providing feedback on the results.
  • Identify, assess and assist with implementation of efficiency improvements and/or cost savings, a transition to the Cloud
  • Assist the external auditors in performing year-end audits

The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications:

  • 5+ years related work experience
  • Experience in full cycle of accounting on various Alberta oil and gas properties would be an asset
  • Formal post-secondary accounting education and a view to a designation
  • Hands on experience with P2 QByte systems including Financial Management (FM), Optix Reporting, and OpenInvoice, are an asset
  • Strong Microsoft Excel experience including pivot tables and formulas; Microsoft Access queries an asset.
  • Self-starter with strong analytical, problem solving and organizational skills
  • Attention to detail and high degree of accuracy is essential

  • Ability to evaluate contractual obligations
